East Tower

Sic Parvis Magna.
— Greatness from small beginnings.

Our History

East Tower, commonly known as “East”, is one of the youngest residential colleges at the University of Newcastle. Established in 2015, East has grown and quickly emerged as one of the more well-known colleges on campus with its roots deeply embedded in college spirit and authenticity. Although East is in fact a smaller college that houses only 194 residents, it has become a commanding force between the other colleges and as such, East has taken home a multitude of first, second and third places in sports, academics, arts and community events in its first few years. As East’s motto “Sic Parvis Magna” states, greatness [comes] from small beginnings.

East’s founding and co-founding residents in 2015 and 2016, believed in having an authentic college, one in which its level of unity and core values were upheld at all times. As a result, an anchor became the symbol and logo of East Tower, representing not only a secure and stable community, but also a united core that is filled full of spirit and passion. The symbolic meaning behind the anchor rings true to East, as year to year its residents continually display their momentous level of unity, spirit and passion for the college.
